The Agentic ISV Window Is Open. It Won't Stay That Way.

Hyperscalers and enterprise platforms are running monthly intake for agentic ISVs — with stacked MDF, forward-deployed engineering, and early tier status going to whoever shows up first.

Most major enterprise platforms are now running an early mover program for ISVs building agents on their infrastructure, and the opportunity cost of joining later appears to be increasing every month.

AWS is the clearest example, and the pattern is not a single 2025 announcement. It is a monthly cadence that keeps compounding. AWS added 158 new competency partners in April 2026, 169 in May, and 184 in June — a steady stream of ISVs earning validated status while the market is still forming. On top of the standard $50K MDF tied to the AI Specialization, AWS is running an additional $25K in Marketing Development Funds specifically for partners validated in its Agentic AI categories this year. SoftwareOne earned that Agentic AI Competency on July 7, about a week before this note was written. That is not a launch-day statistic. That is the program still actively pulling new partners in, right now.

The same structure is showing up everywhere else ISVs distribute. Salesforce fully consolidated AppExchange, the Slack Marketplace, and AgentExchange into one platform at TDX 2026, and backed it with a new $50M AgentExchange Builders Initiative built to fund smaller ISVs with capital, forward-deployed engineering support, and GTM programs including lead referrals and MDF. Google announced its Agent Gateway ISV ecosystem at Cloud Next 2026, and the first wave of integration partners — Cisco, CrowdStrike, Check Point, Okta, and Silverfort — are already live rather than pending. ServiceNow rebuilt its global partner program in January 2026 around a new tier structure — Registered, Select, Premier, Elite — plus an Access Tier built specifically so early-stage ISVs can start building before they are fully enrolled.

None of these are one-time launches. They are live programs with monthly partner intake, stacked funding, and named early participants who are already capturing distribution. That is the part worth sitting with. The advantage is not theoretical or future-dated. It is being allocated this quarter to whoever shows up first.

For ISV and technology partnership teams, this changes the shape of the second-half 2026 planning conversation, and the 2027 planning cycle that most teams start scoping in Q4. For ISVs already committed to an agentic roadmap, the question is no longer whether to build agentic capability. It is which distribution bet to make while the early tiers are still open: go deep with a single hyperscaler for immediate co-sell access and MDF, but take on real platform dependency; build agents on MCP and A2A to stay platform-agnostic, at the cost of slower initial distribution; or skip the marketplace race and embed agentic functionality directly into an existing product, trading platform-level visibility for control over the customer relationship. In practice, most teams will emphasize one of these three as a primary strategy rather than choosing exactly one in isolation — often leading with a hyperscaler while also exposing MCP endpoints or building baseline agentic features into the core product.

The data does not settle which of those three paths is right for a given ISV. That depends on product maturity, existing distribution, and how much platform dependency a team is willing to take on. What the data does settle is the cost of waiting: the platforms are actively rewarding early validated partners with disproportionate funding and visibility, and the intake windows are running on a monthly cycle rather than a single annual announcement. The gap between an ISV validated in Q2 2026 and one that applies in Q1 2027 is already visible in MDF eligibility, and is likely to compound into marketplace credibility through the customer references, case studies, and co-sell relationships that early entrants have more time to build.

Early programs also carry real risk. Requirements evolve, competency criteria get revised, and some of the investment ISVs make now will need to be redirected as platforms mature their agentic offerings. Waiting reduces that risk. It also means giving up the disproportionate funding, forward-deployed engineering access, and early visibility that platforms are currently reserving for first movers. That tradeoff — not a guaranteed win — is what teams are actually weighing.

For partner leaders managing tech alliances rather than running an ISV directly, the same signal matters from the other side. If your organization is evaluating which ISVs to prioritize for co-sell or joint go-to-market motions, competency status and program tier are becoming a genuine filter, not a formality. An ISV that is validated, funded, and visible inside a hyperscaler's agentic tier is a different conversation than one that is still deciding whether to apply.

The practical next step for ISV partnership teams is to map the three paths against your product roadmap and distribution model this quarter, not next. For partner leaders on the alliance side, it is worth building competency and tier status into how you screen and prioritize ISV partners now, before that becomes standard practice across the ecosystem.
