A BlueThread Research Series

    The New Economics of Ecosystems

The economics moved before the task list did.

A 14-episode research series on how partnership economics are being rewritten: who creates value, who captures it, and who gets paid. AI is the forcing function. The story is what happens to your operating model.

    Why this series exists

The vendors are already operating on new economics.

Over the past 12 months, we coded every major partner program announcement from hyperscalers and large platform vendors. Nineteen of twenty moved money, credit, or deal flow away from human-sourced motions: toward attested outcomes, marketplace transactions, agent-mediated sourcing, and co-developed IP. Most partner programs are still built on the old economics.

This series maps the shift one layer at a time, from the partner manager's task list to the program architecture to the hardest question in ecosystem management: when an agent surfaces a deal, one partner influences it, another embeds in it, and a third delivers it, who gets paid? By the end of the season we introduce what we believe is the missing accounting layer for ecosystems. We call it the Outcome Ledger.

BlueThread Research: 19 of 20 major partner program announcements in the past 12 months moved money, credit, or deal flow away from human-sourced motions.
